A 74-year-old woman was raped by two migrant men while walking her son’s dog in Guntramsdorf, Lower Austria, in a horrifying crime that has shaken the community.
The attack, which occurred on Nov. 30 but only recently reported on, saw the elderly victim forced into a car and sexually assaulted by two perpetrators before attentive witnesses and swift police action prevented further violence.
The suspects — two Bosnian nationals aged 21 and 29 — were later arrested and tested positive for drugs. They remain in custody but have refused to speak about the allegations.
As reported by Kronen Zeitung, the attack happened on a secluded dirt road near the Assam Mill, a location where the victim often walked with her son’s dog. As she made her way along her usual path, she was grabbed from behind and forced into a gray station wagon by the two men.
Inside the vehicle, one of the assailants forced the woman to perform oral sex while the second suspect acted as a lookout from the passenger seat.
According to the victim, her attacker pulled her hair violently and punched her several times in the face, leaving her with multiple bruises and injuries that required hospital treatment.
The woman recalled how the main suspect asked her age during the assault. “I told him I was 76, hoping it would discourage him,” she said.
But instead of stopping, the man mocked her response, saying, “Well, then you can’t get pregnant.”
The sexual assault came to an abrupt end when the second suspect acting as a lookout spotted a police patrol arriving, prompting the attacker to stop. He told the woman “You can go,” before jumping out of the car and fleeing.
The police had been tipped off by alerted witnesses who had suspected a robbery.
Authorities quickly apprehended the two suspects, who were found nearby. A drug test confirmed that both men had narcotics in their system at the time of their arrest.
Despite the serious charges, the two suspects have refused to cooperate with investigators. They will remain in custody until trial.
The victim’s lawyer, Raimund Schüller, called the attack a terrifying example of random violence that could happen to anyone.
“Unfortunately, my client was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Nobody is immune to violent attacks,” he said.
