Trump’s Approval Rating Down Among White Voters
Dan Gooding, Newsweek, November 5, 2024
Former President Donald Trump has seen his approval ratings fall among white voters, early exit polls suggested Tuesday night.
In a worrying sign for the former president’s campaign, NBC reported that Trump’s support among white voters had dropped from 57 percent in 2020 to 49 percent in 2024.
However, Trump has seen his support rise over the same period among Black and Latino voters.
Support from Latino voters rose from 38 percent in 2020 to 42 percent in 2024, despite concerns among some following remarks about Puerto Rico being a “floating island of garbage” from a comedian at Trump’s New York City rally, and anti-immigrant policies being front-and-center during his campaign.

White voters are central to Trump’s base. In 2016, 54 percent of the demographic voted for him nationally, giving him a 15-point edge over Hillary Clinton, while 55 percent voted for him in 2020, giving him a 12-point advantage.

However, this year Trump was holding just a 1-point lead among white women, marking the weakest performance in this demographic for any Republican candidate this century, according to CNN political analyst Harry Enten, who cited an average of postelection surveys from 2012-2020 and preelection surveys this year.
