Base of John C. Calhoun Statue Turned into Rubble
Tony Fortier-Bensen, WCIV, January 21, 2024
The spot that once held the monument of John C. Calhoun high in the sky is now nothing more than a bunch of rubble and dirt.
Since Monday, crews have been working at Marion Square to demolish what was left of the monument.
Now, it’s just a bunch of piles of rock and concrete.
City officials said they expect the process to take between seven to 10 days to take down the monument {snip}
Back in June, Charleston City Council voted to remove the monument dedicated to John C. Calhoun {snip}
