New York Subway Shooter Missed His Calling and His Targets

A mass shooting in a Brooklyn subway was briefly the most important story in the country. It dominated Twitter, and since the shooter mowed down New Yorkers the same day President Joe Biden pushed for more gun control, you could almost feel the momentum building for another moral panic about guns. However, those of us following the news saw there were many wounded and no fatalities. This fits a pattern.

Police arrested Frank R. James. He wounded 10 people and about a dozen more were hurt during the resulting panic. He began his attack by setting off smoke bombs and putting on a gas mask. In the confusion, terror, and smoke, he managed to kill no one.
Mr. James is black. He has a long social media record of hatred for whites, and mused about how easy it would be to shoot people in a subway. He also threatened to kill people, and called for total separation of blacks and whites. This wasn’t enough for YouTube to ban him. It was just when Americans began looking for information about Mr. James that Big Tech acted.

Contrary to some early reports, the FBI did not investigate Mr. James or “clear” him in 2019. Newsweek, in a story dispelling the initial confusion, reported in passing that someone on the FBI’s watchlist may not be able to get a visa or board a plane. “Once that case file has been opened, that intelligence community probably keeps that on you for either forever or a very long time,” explained an expert. Somehow, Mr. James wasn’t on the list, even though he practically told the world he was about to go on a shooting spree. What is the FBI for if it can’t stop threats like this?
Judging from the latest big news about the Bureau, one of the things it does is entrap white people. Just before the 2020 election, national media reported that the FBI had arrested 13 men who planned to kidnap Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI). Last week, despite the cooperation of two suspects who turned state’s evidence, a jury acquitted two men supposedly involved in the plot, while two other got a mistrial. “Defense attorneys in the case, along with observers from across the political spectrum, have argued that the FBI’s efforts to make the case, which involved at least a dozen confidential informants, went beyond legitimate law enforcement and into outright entrapment,” wrote Buzzfeed. It’s hard to disagree with its conclusion that this will probably leave the defendants who snitched “wondering whether they made the right choice.”
The FBI is a political organization, which gets its orders and funding from politicians, who are sensitive to media coverage. The FBI was tracking black extremists a few years ago, and even issued a 2017 report on “Black Identity Extremism.” The New York Times, the ACLU, Foreign Policy, and others were indignant; the Intercept flatly denied there was such a threat, and the FBI dutifully dropped the term. It wouldn’t have taken a dozen confidential informants to prevent the Brooklyn shooting. A single agent on the beat casually browsing YouTube could have done the job. Mr. James openly called himself a “prophet of doom” who said that he watched 9/11 videos to feel happy. Mr. James could also help the FBI get a quick hate crime conviction because he posted videos of himself screaming racial insults at passerby.
While he may not have had an FBI file, Mr. James was hardly unknown to the police. He had a dozen arrests. New Jersey charged him with “terroristic threats” in the 1990s, but convicted him only of “harassment.” A court sentenced him to probation and “behavioral health treatment,” which evidently didn’t take. Still, Mr. James didn’t have a criminal record as bad as George Floyd’s; no court ever convicted Mr. James of a felony.
Trusting Americans may marvel that the federal government missed an obvious case despite its new focus on “domestic extremism.” The truth is that not all domestic extremism is treated equally. Robert Hampton wrote in June 2021 that the Biden Administration’s “National Strategy for Countering Domestic Terrorism” was a “clear blueprint for expanding the national security state to suppress white Americans.” The blueprint stated that the primary threat was “racially or ethnically motivated violent extremists (principally those who promote the superiority of the white race) and militia violent extremists.” Examples included the 1921 Tulsa race riot, hardly a threat today. It even cited attacks on Asians, even though blacks committed most of those attacks.
Still, if we look at what the plan was supposed to do, it could have applied to Mr. James. Mr. James was clearly “racially motivated” and an “extremist,” and his musings about killing people suggest he was violent. “The IC [Intelligence Community] assesses that DVEs [Domestic Violent Extremists] exploit a variety of popular social media platforms, smaller websites with targeted audiences, and encrypted chat applications to recruit new adherents, plan and rally support for in-person actions, and disseminate materials that contribute to radicalization and mobilization to violence,” said the plan. Mr. James didn’t bother with encryption. If the “IC” is spying on Internet activity, why didn’t anyone notice him?
The answer may be that Mr. James isn’t out of the ordinary.
- “We gotta take those motherfuckers out.” – Rutgers University Professor Brittney Cooper
- “I had fantasies of unloading a revolver into the head of any white person that got in my way, burying their body, and wiping my bloody hands as I walked away relatively guiltless with a bounce in my step. Like I did the world a fucking favor.” – Dr. Aruna Khilanani, during a lecture on the “The Psychopathic Problem of the White Mind.”
- “Why Don’t We Murder More White People?” – a movie from a non-profit partially funded by the City of San Francisco.
There are countless other examples. It’s not hard to find them every week on Twitter. Making threats against whites is even fodder for comedy. When Facebook’s algorithms searched for “hate speech,” anti-white speech topped the list. Naturally, the Washington Post was upset, not about anti-white animus, but that Facebook didn’t distinguish between insults against whites and other groups. This was “an example of how Facebook’s decisions in the name of being neutral and race-blind in fact come at the expense of minorities and particularly people of color.”
Some media reported that Mr. James posted insulting statements about blacks. He implied New York City Mayor Eric Adams, a black former police captain, was “a carbon copy of the person who made you a slave.” Also, he is annoyed that black Supreme Court Justice Kentaji Brown Jackson is married to a white man. Mr. James was unhappy with blacks whom he thought were not militant or paranoid enough. He predicted doomsday, or genocide of blacks at the hands of whites. Even the war in Ukraine was a warning to blacks: “Ultimately, at the end of the day, they kill and commit genocide against each other. What do you think they gonna to do your black ass?”
“Media downplays accused Brooklyn subway shooter Frank James’s hatred of whites,” said the New York Post in an editorial. It concluded that “woke” people believe “only whites can be racists, and any evidence to the contrary must be ignored.” However, this isn’t a view limited to the “woke.” This is orthodoxy.
Racism is supposed to be “prejudice plus power.” Blacks do not have power, even though they get set-asides from the government, worshipful treatment from media, special treatment in both political parties, and run some of our biggest cities. Jews and some Asian-American groups also don’t have power, even though they both earn more money on average than whites and score higher on presumably racist standardized tests. When 34 Congressmen introduced a bill calling for an “unconditional war on racism and invidious discrimination and providing for the establishment of a Cabinet-level Department of Reconciliation,” they were worried only about whites. Non-whites can’t be racist and whites are always racist.
Mr. James clearly had mental problems, and this got sympathetic coverage.
- “Mental health counselor calls Frank James’ social media posts a ‘cry for help,’” WTMJ-TV Milwaukee, April 14, 2022
- “Sister of suspect in Brooklyn subway shooting says ‘he’s been on his own his whole life,” The New York Times, April 13, 2022
Mr. James himself rather unfairly blamed the mayor: “I’m a victim of your mental health program in New York City.” However, what is the answer? “Behavioral therapy” didn’t help. The New York Post suggests that his case may be a “turning point” for the city on mental health: “Either the city reins in the crazies who are making life hellish for everyday New Yorkers or it watches its residents flee – and its future spiral downward.” Blacks have higher rates of psychopathic personality than whites. If the city started rounding up the “crazies” and treating them against their will, there would be disparate impact, so it would have to stop.
Was Mr. James paranoid when he said whites were about to genocide blacks? Yes, but one can hardly blame him. That message is mainstream.
- “For MLK Day, Spice Company Says All Republicans ‘Racist,’ Want to ‘Shoot a Black Person,’” Newsweek, January 18, 2022
- “There’s Nothing More Frightening in America Today Than an Angry White Man,” CNN, November 21, 2022
- “Our Real Problem Is White Rage,” Salon, July 15, 2013
Countless individuals and institutions tell blacks that whites have massacred blacks in the past, are doing it in the present, and will do it again. Why shouldn’t Mr. James believe them? If he had restrained his impulses, he could have been a screenwriter for the next installment of The Purge. He might even get a MacArthur Genius Grant.
Was Mr. James off base when he claimed that whites think blacks’ “rightful place is as a slave?” The President of the United States suggested the same thing. “They gonna put y’all back in chains,” said Mr. Biden of Republicans to black voters in 2012. That was a decade ago, so we can’t blame it on senility.
“Today’s domestic terrorism threat will not fade if we simply hope for its disappearance, let alone if we ignore it,” says the Biden Administration’s terrorism plan. However, “ignorance” is the most charitable interpretation of the government’s view of black violence. The everyday savagery we’ve come to expect in American life, the attacks against whites from black extremists, and endless incitement against whites by media elites are tolerated and excused by the government. The federal government also can’t pass this off as another one of those inexplicable “random” attack, because Mr. James faces federal terrorism charges.
Unlike Mr. James, the suspect in the Waukesha massacre, Darrell Brooks, was not charged with terrorism. Even readers of this site can be forgiven for forgetting his name; the national media has all but forgotten this lurid, sensational case. Mr. Brooks ran over several people in a Christmas parade in December, killing six and injuring ten times as many. There were similarities between Mr. Books and Mr. James.
- Both posted explicit, violent threats.
- Both shared black nationalist ideas on social media.
- Both had long criminal records.
- Darrell James recorded a rap song paying tribute to Malcolm X, using his words to justify hating whites. “This that Malcolm X shit!” he exclaimed. So it was. You can listen to him yourself.
Mr. Brooks killed six times as many people as James Fields did in Charlottesville, where he faced chaotic, threatening circumstances. Unite The Right 2017 led to wave of deplatforming, censorship, and repression that is still going on. It was the stated inspiration for President Joe Biden’s campaign. Waukesha – and its white victims – had no such impact.
Two months ago, a Black Lives Matter activist was charged with the attempted murder of a mayor candidate in Louisville, Kentucky. The local BLM chapter spent $100,000 to bail him out. Quintez Brown was a prominent activist who was featured by MSNBC, the Obama Foundation, and the senate campaign of Democrat Charles Booker. Still, Mr. Brown’s situation recently worsened. The federal government charged the onetime gun control advocate with a federal firearms offense that could get him a life sentence. In response, his lawyer said:
When Breonna Taylor, a Black woman, was killed, the United States Attorney’s Office ran from the case. Here, when a Black man suffering from mental illness is accused of committing a crime against a white mayoral candidate, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, at the prompting of Sen. Mitch McConnell, jumps in with both feet [to snatch] the case from state prosecutors.
He accused the federal government of trying to “crush Quintez Brown and destroy his life.” He has it backwards. Under our system, the accused are innocent until proven guilty, in court if not in the media. When it comes to the way the federal government treats whites, we are guilty and can’t be proven innocent. It was just last week that Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas told Al Sharpton’s National Action Network that “the most prominent threat is the threat of white supremacists.” Saying this during the current crime wave suggests either malevolence or insanity.
The federal government, most media outlets, and social media companies think we are the greatest threat to Americans’ safety. There’s little evidence for this. Compared to blacks, whites are vastly underrepresented as mass shooters and in crime generally. Even when the well-funded ADL issued a report on “extremist terrorism,” the best it could do was cherry-pick a few cases and then “link” random crimes to political extremism.
Meanwhile, despite the clear anti-white rage of the Brooklyn shooter, the Waukesha killer, the would-be assassin of the Louisville mayoral candidate, and the black supremacist who murdered a white Capitol police officer and wounded another last July – did you ever remember that guy? – our rulers insist that white supremacists are the number-one terror threat.
There are so few white who commit racist crimes that non-whites invent them, with Jussie Smollett the most spectacular example. There is such a political libido for these crimes that 15 FBI agents were dispatched to investigated a pull-down rope on a garage door assigned to black NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace. Touré Neblett, a former MSNBC pundit and podcaster who will never need to worry about losing his platform, yearns for white killers. He tweeted his disappointment that the subway shooter was black: “Damn, damn, damn.”
Police say the suspect is a male Black.” Damn. Damn. Damn.

White people’s restraint continues to disappoint our opponents, despite their best efforts. As for blacks, it’s easy to understand why they hate us. It is dogma to blame all racial discrepancies on white racism. When this message is broadcast by almost every prominent institution to an impulsive, emotional race, violence is inevitable.
Wittingly or not, our rulers incite it. The Knoxville Horror, the Wichita Massacre, the murder of five-year-old Cannon Hinnant, and countless other supposedly random black crimes can’t be separated from what our rulers tell the killers. The most powerful propaganda system on Earth continuously tells blacks that we are their only problem. What else was going to happen?
In 1992, Jared Taylor wrote:
[O]ur society teaches blacks to hate whites. At every turn, blacks are told that whites are responsible for their problems. At every opportunity, blacks are reminded of slavery. Virtually every failure by blacks . . . is said to be the work of white people. . . . America has done everything within its power to encourage blacks to hate whites.
That might have been an original observation 30 years ago; today, it is banal. The question is: What do we do about it? Bemoaning double standards, wailing that it’s unfair, expecting Republicans to save us, or appealing to a Constitution that’s been dead since before I was born hasn’t worked. We must accept a hard truth. Whites are a stateless people. Our rulers roused this storm of hatred against whites. It is no longer possible to deny it.
