For the second time in as many days, U.S. Border Patrol agents in El Paso Sector apprehended a convicted murderer attempting to make an illegal entry into the United States.

During the afternoon of November 8, an agent assigned to the El Paso Border Patrol Station arrested Jose Jesus Murillo-Rodriguez, a 46-year-old Mexican National and convicted murderer, attempting illegal entry into the United States.

In December 1992, Murillo was sentenced to 40 years in prison by a court in Cook County, Illinois, after being convicted of two counts of murder and a single count of attempted murder. He was ordered removed from the U.S. in November 2010.

After his capture last Friday, Murillo was remanded to the El Paso County Detention Facility to await prosecution.

“Every day, criminal aliens attempt to illegally enter the United States between the ports of entry, often concealing themselves among families or taking a role of a parent with a child during this humanitarian crisis,” said El Paso Border Patrol Sector Interim Chief Gloria Chavez. “The men and women of the U.S. Border Patrol are our first line of defense in identifying these criminals further protecting every city, county, and community across our nation.”

U.S. Customs and Border Protection welcomes assistance from the community. Citizens are encouraged to report suspicious activity to the U.S. Border Patrol while remaining anonymous by calling 1-800-635-2509 toll-free.

It is important to note that an arrest or criminal complaint is merely a charge and should not be considered evidence of guilt. Subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
